As someone interested in coding and tech, I am almost constantly searching for new and effective ways to learn. As a student however, I don’t exactly have a lot of funds to do it. If this is relatable to you, welcome to Broke and Coding!
My Experience
As an introduction to myself – my name is Sarah, and I am currently a second-year student studying Software Development.
When I first decided I wanted to learn how to code, I wasn’t exactly sure where to start. I was interested in pursuing coding in university, but I wanted to ensure I enjoyed it first. I began researching coding courses online, but many of them were quite expensive.
Eventually, I started to come across some completely free courses.
This is when I began my first coding course, which was freeCodeCamp’s Responsive Web Design. I continued progressing through these lessons in my free time, and I found to really enjoy it.
Once I had some taste of experience, I knew this was something I was excited about pursuing further. I then applied to a Bachelor of Science degree in Computing in Software Development, and was ecstatic to receive a place in the course.
Once I began my studies, I was immensely grateful that I had put the effort into getting some coding experience before I started the course. I found my existing knowledge from my independent research to be incredibly helpful to many of my coding modules, and ended up receiving good grades that I was very proud of.
As I continue my academic career, I find I am still deeply passionate about learning. While I do a lot of this within my college course, I am nevertheless continuing my research to expand my knowledge, and hopefully, my opportunities.
Thanks to this persistent interest, I have now decided to create this blog! Here I will be sourcing and giving my thoughts on some completely free coding and/or general tech resources. This may include topics such as various coding languages, network technology, or hardware courses.
I am excited to get started on this independent learning journey, and maybe some of my thoughts will be of interest to others along the way.
Thank you for reading, please feel free to check my post where I reviewed the first ever coding course I completed - FreeCodeCamp – Review.
